Learning The Guitar For Beginners

Hey guys.
With Christmas approaching I have decided to pick up a guitar. My question is… if I should get a bass or not. I have a few friends are are amazing guitarists and wouldn’t mind helping me out. The thing is, I hear that it is best to start with a normal electric or acoustic because bass can sometime be a drag to learn for beginners and can get boring. Is this true, what are some other opinions on the topic ?

The great thing about bass is that guitar players are a dime a dozen. If you want to get into a band, play bass. a bass player is always needed.
